베가스에서 슈퍼 모델을 만났다. 더 정확히 말하면 전직 연예인을 마주했다. 화려했던 시절을 지닌 사람이기에 누구나 쉽게 던질 수 있는 질문은 “왜 그만두었나?” … 아마도 지겹도록 들었을 것이다. 그래도 궁금할 걸 어떡하나! “다이어트가 너무 지겨웠어요. 건강도 많이 안 좋아졌어요. 결혼 언제하냐는 집안의 재촉도 듣기 싫어졌어요. 그리고 좀더 전문지식을 가지고 길게 가져갈 수 있는 직업을 갖고 싶었어요. 그래서 새로운 도전으로 정체된 나의 삶을 타개하고자 미국으로 건너 왔습니다.”
그의 이름은 ‘강수희’. 한예슬과 슈퍼 모델 동기이며 가장 유명했던 작품은 ‘리바이스’. 이 광고로 그는 세상에 이름 석자를 알렸다. 인터뷰를 하다보니 그는 끊임없이 달리는 스타일임을 알 수 있었다. 어떤 일을 하고 있을 때 그것과 접목되는 여러 개의 우물을 끊임없이 뜷으며 미국에서의 10여 년을 달려왔다. 지금은 뷰티와 클리닉을 접목한 뷰티클리의 대표이다.
“처음 랜딩은 LA로 했어요. 모델 에이전시에서 활동하다가 뉴욕으로 옮겼어요. 뉴욕에서 취득한 라이선스들만 한국에서 트랜스퍼가 가능해서요. 처음엔 피부미용에 대한 공부를 시작했고, 라이선스를 취득했죠. 그런데 공부를 하다보니 결국은 우리의 장기, 즉 속에서부터 증상이 올라온다는 것을 알게 되었어요. 그래서 치료법을 알고자 한의학 대학원 과정까지 이수했습니다.” 그는 한의대학원 졸업장을 들고 한참을 바라보았다고 한다. 코로나 19 시기를 거치면서 버티기 힘든 순간도 떠올랐고, 전철을 타고 학교를 오가며 인턴 생활까지 마친 자신이 너무도 대견했기 때문이다.
강 대표는 국제 미용 라이선스(CIDESCO Internation Cosmetology & ITEC), 에스테틱 메이크업, 토탈 미용 라이선스, 타투 바디아트, 레이저 테크니션 등의 자격증을 취득했다. 거의 모든 미용 라이선스를 보유했다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 여기에 한의사 자격증까지. 그는 동양의학을 뷰티 분야에 접목하기 위해 고군분투했고, 마음을 함께 치유할 수 있는 치료사가 되기 위한 절실한 과정이었다고 여긴다.
