The secret of my life is the 'Law of 10,000 hours'
‘젊음’이 아름다운 이유는 ‘도전’이라는 패기로 채울 수 있는 시간이기 때문이다. 역동적으로 흘러가는 베가스에서의 서바이벌은 더 다양한 도전을 삶의 당위성으로 받아들여야 자존감을 잃지 않을 수 있다.
새로운 삶을 찾아나선 또 하나의 젊은이, 조재현씨를 만났다. 그는 13살부터 플루트를 시작하여 20년 동안 한 우물을 팠다. 그 우물의 마무리는 UNLV 전액장학금으로 마친 박사 학위. 그는 플루티스트로 상당한 재능을 지녔으며, 다년 간의 연주회를 가졌다. 사실 라스베이거스는 문화적 이슈가 충만하면서도 클래식 아트의 불모지이기도 하다. “저는 한 우물을 파라는 조언을 듣고 자랐지만, 요즘 시대를 보면 평생 한 가지 직업만으로 살기는 버겁다는 고민을 많이 했습니다. 한 분야의 전문가가 되기 위해 말콤 클래드웰의 ‘1만 시간의 법칙’에 도전했죠. 저의 플루티스트 인생은 1만 시간을 넘어서며 한 열매를 맺었습니다. 그리고 다른 1만 시간의 도전을 위해 리얼터로서의 시간을 선택했습니다.”
그는 차분하면서도 명료한 논리가 마인드에 배어 있었다. 음악가로서 감성적인 모습이 강하면서도 오랫동안 공부한 학도로서의 냉철한 이성도 적절히 배어있어 새로이 선택한 직업도 잘 해낼 거라는 예측이 가능하게 했다.
조재현 리얼터는 Signature Real Estate Group에서 부동산 거래 뿐만 아니라, 집의 가치를 제대로 파악할 수 있는 재산감정평가사로도 활동하고 있다. 그가 지향하는 앞으로의 비즈니스 계획은 고객의 부동산이 제대로 가치를 발휘하도록 서포트를 하며, 리모델링을 통한 가치 창출에도 깊은 관심을 가지고 있다. 그는 “부동산 리얼터도 어떤 면에서는 음악을 만드는 오케스트라와 비슷한 면이 많습니다. 함께 음악을 느끼고 감정을 전달해주는 지휘자를 만날 때 얼마나 행복한지 모릅니다. 부동산 리얼터는 거래가 끝날 때까지 지휘자 역할을 하죠. 에스크로, 론, 인스펙션, 감정 평가까지 다양한 분야의 일을 잘 조율해야만 합니다. 지휘자처럼 끊임없이 공부하고 즐거운 마음으로 함께하는 리얼터가 되고 싶습니다.”라고 포부를 밝혔다.
조재현 리얼터는 음악가로서의 위치도 지켜나갈 계획이다. 현재 함께 공부했던 음악가들과 찬양을 녹음하고 있으며, 어린이 글로벌재단 자선 음악회, 네팔 사랑 선교 나눔 음악회, 부활절, 성탄절 칸타타 등 지역 사회의 음악인으로서 최선을 다하고자 한다. “머지않아 독주회도 무대에 올릴 것 같습니다. 모든 것이 빠르게 돌아가는 시대이지만, 100년이 넘어도 사랑받을 수밖에 없는 클래식 음악에는 큰 내공이 숨어 있다고 생각해요. 그래서 베가스에 살면서 어려움을 겪고 조바심을 내는 젊은이들에게 전하고 싶은 메시지가 있다면 빠른 결과만을 바라기보다는 보이지 않는 하루하루의 반 걸음을 통해 도달한 성취가 위대한 성공이 될 수도 있다는 것을 기억했으면 좋겠습니다. 저 역시도 제 분야에서 끝없는 배움과 성장으로 가득한 여정을 걷고자 합니다. 확신이 더딘 길도 즐기며 가고 싶습니다.”
이러한 젊은 친구를 만날 때마다, 나의 직업에 대한 고마움도 새록새록 솟아난다. 그 여정을 바라보는 기쁨도 작지 않다. 오늘은 그의 시간이 ‘도전’ 위에서 더 당당해지는 것에 내 소망을 걸어본다.

The reason why "young" is beautiful is that it is a time to fill with the spirit of "challenge." Survival in Vegas, which flows dynamically, requires accepting more diverse challenges as justification for life so that self-esteem does not lose.
He met another young man, Cho Jae-hyun, who was looking for a new life. He started playing the flute at the age of 13 and dug a well for 20 years. He finished well with a full-fledged UNLV scholarship. He had considerable talent as a flutist and had concerts for many years. In fact, Las Vegas is a barren city of classical art and is full of cultural issues. "I grew up with advice to dig a well, but in today's world, I thought it would be too much to live with just one job. I challenged Malcolm Cladwell's The 10,000-hour rule in order to become an expert in one field. My flutist life went over 10,000 hours and paid off. And I chose time as a realtor for another 10,000-hour challenge."
He had a calm yet clear logic in his mind. As a musician, he has a strong emotional appearance, but as a student who has studied for a long time, he has an appropriate cool reason, making it possible to predict that he will do well in his newly chosen job.
In addition to real estate transactions, Cho Jae-hyun is also a property appraiser at Signature Real Estate Group that can properly grasp the value of a house. His future business plans support his customers' real estate to be valued, and he is also deeply interested in creating value through remodeling. He said, "Real Estate Realter has many similar aspects to an orchestra that makes music in some ways. You don't know how happy he is when he meets a conductor who feels music and delivers emotions together. Real Realter acts as a conductor until the deal is over. He has to coordinate his work in various fields, including escrow, loan, inspection, and appraisal. I want to become a Realtor who constantly studies and shares my heart with a joyful heart like a conductor."
Cho Jae-hyun is also planning to maintain his position as a musician. He is recording praise with the musicians he studied with, and he wants to do his best as a musician in the local community including the Children's Global Foundation Charitable Concert, Nepal Love Mission Sharing Concert, Easter and Christmas Cantata. "I think I will have a solo concert on stage soon. Everything is going fast, but I think there is a great influence hidden in classical music, which is bound to be loved for more than 100 years. If there is a message I want to send to young people who are struggling and anxious while living in Vegas, rather than just hoping for an early outcome, I want them to remember that achievements achieved through half-step steps from an invisible day can be a great success. I also want to take a journey full of endless learning and growth in my field. I want to enjoy the path that I am not sure about."
Whenever I meet such a young friend, my gratitude for my job also comes to mind. The joy of watching the journey is not small. Today, I bet my wish on his time becoming more confident on the 'challenge'.
