2023년 6월 메트로 경찰은 한 아파트 안에서 여섯 명의 어린이를 구출했는데, 그 중 두 명이 개 집에 갇힌 채로 발견되었다. 33세의 트래비스 도스와 그의 아내 아만다 스탬퍼는 아동 학대로 체포되었다. 이 어린이들을 치료한 간호사는 “온 몸의 멍자국과 퉁퉁 부은 눈 등 13년 의료 생활 중 가장 심각한 학대 사례”라고 밝혔다.

Even victims often give up because forensic examinations are difficult and time-consuming.
Nevada ranks fourth in the country for domestic violence, with 44 percent of women experiencing it, according to a University of Nevada Las Vegas study report. The report was created to document the difficulties victims face in accessing treatment, services, and support. According to the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV), the number of women killed by men this year is serious enough to rank second in the country.
Even if the victims are protected by the judicial system, the next barrier is that the state budget for the 'shelter' has not been established. Some non-profit organizations are using subsidies to operate shelters.
In June 2023, Metro Police rescued six children from inside an apartment, two of whom were found trapped in a doghouse. Travis Doss, 33, and his wife, Amanda Stamper, were arrested for child abuse. The nurse who treated the children said, "This is the most serious case of abuse in our 13-year medical life, including bruises and swollen eyes all over our body."
"Seventy-six percent of children raised in domestic violence families repeat that cycle as survivors or abusers," Ortenburger, CEO of SafeNest, noted, stressing that "it is very important for children to get support from mental health service providers to help them heal their trauma."
